How the AI part works

MeloCut uses RNNoise, a neural network trained to tell speech apart from background noise. The model is about 300 KB and runs in your browser, so private recordings never leave your phone or computer.

In our own test with a voice recorded next to a running fan, the noise in the pauses between words dropped by about 18 dB, which sounds roughly a third as loud, while the voice kept its level. Results depend on the recording, so press Preview and listen for yourself.

Getting the best result

It's made for speech: podcasts, interviews, voice notes and calls. On music it can remove instruments too, so for songs use Reduce hiss instead. Auto loudness and Remove silences are switched on here as well, which gives a cleaner result.
